‘ParTEE with a Purpose’ takes over Topgolf for childhood cancer research

The Children’s Hospital of El Paso and Mattress Firm hosted the first ever Topgolf Takeover to raise money to fund childhood cancer research Saturday.

The event, “ParTEE with a Purpose,” is raising awareness as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close.

According to the National Cancer Institute, ” In the United States in 2018, an estimated 10,590 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed among children from birth to 14 years, and about 1,180 children are expected to die from the disease. Although cancer death rates for this age group have declined by 57 percent over the past four decades, cancer remains the leading cause of death from disease among children.”

The El Paso Children’s Hospital works to keep the city’s children here and provide them the best level of care.

“Part of what we are doing today with ParTEE with a Purpose is insuring our children have better access, continued access for [cancer-related] services,” Cindy Stout, CEO of the Children’s Hospital, said. “So all the funds raised today will go directly into the programs to continue to build them at the hospital.”

The event started at 8:30 a.m. and went until 11:30 p.m.
