El Paso police have released new details after they responded to a deadly crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle in Northeast El Paso Tuesday night.

Police identified the victim of the pedestrian traffic fatality as 76 year-old Guillermo Rivera.

The incident occurred at around 8 P.M. on the 10700 block of Rushing, where officers with the Special Traffic Investigations unit investigating the scene interviewed the driver involved in the crash.

According to investigators, a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 57 year-old Sylvia Berge was traveling north on rushing when it struck Rivera, who was crossing in an unlit area while wearing dark clothing.

Rivera died at the scene.

Police say there have been 22 pedestrian traffic fatalities in the city and urge the public to obey traffic laws, cross at intersections when properly permitted to walk, observe speed limits, and carefully scan the surrounding areas of crosswalks and intersections or pedestrians.
