Affidavit: Man stabbed by ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend now intubated, suffering seizures

A man who visited his ex-girlfriend suffered life-threatening injuries when he was stabbed by a man currently dating the woman, El Paso Police said.

Cornell Lamar Woods, 36, is charged with aggravated assault. The stabbing was reported Sunday, December 30, 2018 on the 3800 block of Lincoln at 12:13 p.m.

Police officers were responding to a fight when they found Remos Antwyn Lovett, 37, suffering from stab wounds to his head and chest. Police located Woods, the suspect, at an apartment at 3811 Lincoln and took him into custody.

Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit learned Lovett went to the to the apartment complex to visit his ex-girlfriend, who is currently dating Woods.

Woods, who lived with the woman, told Lovett to leave. Witnesses told police Lovett walked away in the direction of a dumpster in the apartment complex. Woods allegedly approached Lovett from behind and stabbed Lovett in the chest and the head, a criminal complaint states.

The victim is currently in the intensive care unit, “intubated, suffering from seizures and not able to speak,” the court document states.

Several witnesses identified Woods in a photo line-up, police said. Police said they located the knife used in the attack in Woods’ apartment. The knife was hidden underneath a pile of clothing and the blade had been burned, the criminal complaint states.
