ABC-7 First Alert – Rain Chances Increase Tonight, Cooler Temperatures Expected Through the Weekend

EL PASO, Texas (ABC-7) — Cool temperatures will continue across the Borderland tonight .

The weather setup will pull moisture northward from Mexico, increasing rain chances across the region.

This system is not enough to support widespread soaking rainfall, periods of light to moderate rain are expected through Saturday. Areas east of the Rio Grande could see rainfall totals approaching half an inch, with Hudspeth County favored for some of the higher amounts.

Rain showers are expected to develop over southwestern New Mexico this evening before gradually spreading east along the U.S.-Mexico border later Friday night. Showers will linger east of El Paso into Saturday, with rain chances between 70% and 90%.

Cloud cover, along with a weak backdoor cold front moving in from the east, will keep temperatures noticeably cooler heading into the weekend. High temperatures across the lowlands Saturday are expected to remain in the upper 50s, roughly 10 to 15 degrees below seasonal averages.

By Sunday, rain chances will begin to decrease as the low-pressure system shifts eastward. Hudspeth County could hold on to a few lingering showers, while drier air gradually moves into the rest of the region. Temperatures will also begin a slow recovery.

The warming trend will continue into next week, with temperatures expected to return to seasonal averages by Wednesday.
