UPDATE: Capital murder investigation leads to a second arrest

El Paso police charged 26-year-old Pedro Favela Salgado with capital murder in connection with the death of a 5-month-old girl Friday night. Police said the 5-month old was identified as America Salgado. Police said she was found unresponsive when officers arrived to the 125 block of Vaquero Lane. She died at a local hospital, according to the department.

After further investigation, police filed an additional charge of injury to a child to Salgado. Police said a second child was found on the scene Friday night with similar injuries and was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Police said the second child is 1 year, 9 months old. Salgado was rebooked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond set at $20,000.

Crimes Against Persons has also charged the children’s mother Michelle Gutierrez with injury to a child after police said the investigation revealed that she was aware of the injuries to the second child, but allegedly failed to report it. She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a bond of $150,000.
