H.S. Baseball: Bel Air drops game one against Amarillo in third round

The Bel Air baseball team lost game one of their third round series with Amarillo Friday evening in Odessa by a final of 9-5.

The Highlanders now must win games two and three Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16 in the 5A playoffs.

Amarillo got out of a jam in the top of the first when it appeared the Highlanders would strike first. Bel Air had two runners aboard right away in the game but the Sandies were able to get out unscathed.

The Sandies would then score three runs in the top of the second inning to grab an early 3-0 lead, and they didn’t look back from there.

They would extend that lead to 6-0 a couple innings later to take complete control of game one.

But the Highlanders did make the final scoreline more respectable after outscoring Amarillo 5-3 in the fianl innings, and they grabbed a bit of momentum heading into game two Saturday that could give them a boost.

Bel Air has victories over Canutillo and Abilene Wylie so far this postseason, but they’ve got their work cut out for them Saturday if they want to advance.
