Student stabbed, seriously hurt in possible gang fight near northeast El Paso middle school

A student was stabbed and seriously injured during a group fight near a northeast El Paso middle school on Thursday afternoon, based on separate accounts from police, fire and school district officials.

Police said Friday the department’s Gang Unit was investigating, signaling that authorities suspect the incident may be gang-related.

The violence involving what police said involved “several juveniles” broke out around 12:30 p.m. — shortly after summer session classes at Canyon Hills Middle School had released for the day. Officers indicated one person believed to be involved in that fight was stabbed.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by firefighters, who said it was a “Code 3” transport — which indicates the patient is in serious condition. Police said the victim remained hospitalized Friday in serious condition.

A school spokesperson identified the victim as a student, but his name was not released.

Canyon Hills Middle School is located at 8930 Eclipse Street near the intersection of Moonlight.
