FBI boosts reward to $15,000 in hopes…

The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced it is boosting a reward being offered in an effort to find the arsonist who burned three Catholic churches in west El Paso over the summer.

The FBI’s contribution of $5,000 on Thursday now raises the total reward being offered in the cases to $15,000.

St. Matthew Catholic Church, St. Patrick Cathedral, and St. Jude Catholic Church were all damaged in May or June after being targeted with “incendiary devices,” according to the FBI, but fortunately no one was injured in the attacks.

Authorities asked anyone with information on the church fires to contact the FBI’s El Paso Field Office at (915) 832-5000 or call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477). The bureau said anonymous tips could be reported online at tips.fbi.gov or at crimestoppersofelpaso.org.

“Every lead will be thoroughly investigated,” the FBI vowed in a statement. “Regardless of how insignificant you think your information might be, we strongly encourage you to come forward and welcome your information and assistance.”
