County Commissioners postpone vote on authorizing publication of notice of intent to issue public debt

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso County Commissioners took no action on an item that would start the process of issuing hundreds of millions of dollars in public debt for capital improvements at University Medical Center.

Directly following the presentation, which was led by  University Medical Center of El Paso President and CEO Jacob Cintron, Commissioner David Stout said the court should take a step back and postpone the issue so that the public has more time to digest the notice of intent.

"I feel like, you know, just less than 24 hours is a very short amount of time for the public to be able to digest, not just the public, but folks that work in the hospital, right?" Stout said.

Stout said he received a copy of the presentation two weeks ago.

The item will be brought back to the court for discussion, and a potential vote, on June 27.

Commissioners have also asked hospital officials to redo the presentation for taxpayers, and present its public outreach plans.
