Memorial held for Erika Gaytan; family reacts to Marquez sentencing

EL PASO, Texas - It was a somber sight at Saint Mark Catholic Church in East El Paso Tuesday evening, where family members of Erika Gaytan gathered to pray for her. Her killer, Ricardo Marquez, was sentenced to 75 years in prison earlier for her 2019 murder.

ABC-7 spoke with both Gaytan's biological mother and her adoptive mother about how they felt about the sentencing, and if they felt justice had been served.

Gaytan went missing back in July 2019 after she had attended a concert with Marquez. A white Jeep that Marquez was believed to have been driving was spotted on security cameras driving to and from Red Sands in far East El Paso on the early morning of her disappearance. The same type of sand was recovered from a pair of Marquez's shoes during a search warrant of his house. Her body has never been recovered, even after extensive searches of the area.
