Rotary Club of West El Paso’s Fourth of July parade returns after 2-year pandemic break

EL PASO, Texas - For over two decades, West El Paso’s biggest parade of the year has been the Independence Day Parade sponsored by the Rotary Club of West El Paso.  This year’s parade with the theme “We the People” on July 4 will be no different. Parade Grand Marshals will be El Paso historians Melissa and Bernie Sargent.  Both Melissa and Bernie have been strong supporters and participants of the parade over the years and are well known in the community as educators and advocates for preserving our historical past.  With the financial support of community parade sponsors like the Rotary Club of West El Paso and the City of El Paso, this year’s parade promises to be another fun family event.

Parade committee chair LuAnn Wieland said that the parade will once again start at 9am at the Western Hills Methodist Church at 530 Thunderbird. It turns left onto Thunderbird, then left at Shadow Mountain, right on Mesa and then proceeds to Coronado High School.  This year, the parade will have 1st – 3rd place plaques for the float winners and a total of $600 in cash: 1st place – $300, 2nd place $200, 3rd place $100. Judging criteria will include patriotic music, visual impact and patriotism.

To sign up for the parade go to http://July4Parade.com where you can fill out an application online at the “entry” tab.   There is no charge for non-profits, military groups, schools or churches. All other entries can be paid online or by mailing a check as per instructions online.  The parade entry deadline is July 1st.  For more information contact Parade Chair LuAnn Wieland by text at 915-549-9270.
