LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - A gun buyback event is being held on Saturday, September 17th, and is being hosted by New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, who says their mission is to reduce injury and death from firearms

The event is being held in partnership with Viva Toyota and the Las Cruces Police Department.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the East Mesa Public Safety Complex, 550 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

People who exchange their guns will be receiving gift cards in exchange for their fire arms.

In a press release, NMPGV said they will provide $250 in gift cards for assault-style weapons, $200 in gift cards for semi-automatic handguns and rifles and $100 in gift cards for long guns and pistols.

The business that these gift cards will be from are Albertson's Amazon, Chevron, Target and Walmart, according to New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence.
