New Coastal Carolina coach Beck names Chants assistants

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — New Coastal Carolina coach Tim Beck has named Travis Trickett to lead the Chants offense and Craig Naivar and Dan Carrel to direct the defense.

Beck, North Carolina State’s offensive coordinator the previous three years, took over the program in December after Chants coach Jamey Chadwell left for the same position at Liberty.

Beck named his first staff on Friday.

Trickett, the son of longtime assistant Rick Trickett under Florida State’s late Bobby Bowden, most recently led the offense at South Florida this past season. Trickett will also coach Coastal quarterbacks.

Naivar and Beck served on the same staff at Texas from 2017-19. Most recently, Naivar was special teams coordinator and safeties coach for SMU last season. He will also coach safeties for Coastal.

Carrel, also the Chants’ linebackers coach, stepped away from college last season and was defensive coordinator for the USFL’s Michigan Panthers under head coach Jeff Fisher.

Others on Beck’s staff include offensive line coach Derek Warehime, tight ends coach Kriss Proctor, receivers coach Perry Parks, running backs coach Xavier Dye, defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh, cornerbacks coach Curtis Fuller, and special teams and outside linebackers coach Josh Miller.

Quinn Barham was named Beck’s director of football speed, strength and conditioning. He spent the last seven seasons on the strength and conditioning staff at Ohio State.

Coastal Carolina went 31-7 the past three seasons, appearing in the AP Top 25 each of those years and twice qualifying for the Sun Belt Conference championship game.
