Las Cruces Police are asking for help identifying two suspects involved in a mid-day shooting on Monday

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- The Las Cruces Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in identifying two suspects involved in a dramatic mid-day shooting that took place on Monday, May 15, 2023, near the New Mexico State University campus.

The incident, which reportedly began around 12:30 PM near Frenger Park in south-central Las Cruces, involved two vehicles, a black Nissan Maxima and a red Hyundai Sonata, engaging in a high-speed chase with occupants from both cars firing rounds at each other.

Eyewitnesses from multiple locations flooded local law enforcement with calls, painting a chaotic scene of two cars weaving through residential streets.

One residence on south Espina Street was struck by gunfire, but no injuries have been reported. The close proximity of the incident to the New Mexico State University has raised particular concern among the community.

Investigators were able to obtain surveillance video from the vicinity of Milton Avenue and College Street, capturing crucial moments of the incident. The footage clearly shows the two vehicles in question, reinforcing the eyewitness accounts.

Las Cruces Police Department is now seeking the public's assistance in identifying and locating the individuals involved in this reckless event. They are hopeful that someone may recognize the vehicles or have additional information that could lead to the suspects' identification.
