El Paso students win in 2023 Congressional Art Competition

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On Wednesday, Congresswoman Veronica Escobar announced the winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition.

Aznette Hernandez, a senior at Eastwood High School was the first place winner for her piece, "Mi Querido Apa" or in English "My beloved father."

Ivan Calderon from Da Vinci School for the Science and the Arts received second place for his piece "Artist's Evolution."

Samantha Cordero from Harmony Science Academy placed third for her artwork "Mexican Food Truck."

Honorable mentions were Jocelyn Duarte from Mountain View High School and Nqaining Tan Chen from Eastwood High School.

Teacher with most participation went to Ramiro Ordoñez from Bel Air High School with 17 submissions.

Every spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize talented artist in the nation.

Representative Escobar received 86 pieces of art from 16 different high schools.
