One person with serious injuries after a water rescue from the canal

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Wednesday night The El Paso Fire Department Water Rescue Team assisted Border Patrol with rescuing one person at the canal along the border highway.

The person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened by Border Highway and Padres around 10 p.m.

Right now the canals are dangerous because the water released to the Rio Grande from Elephant Butte Lake last Friday is filling the canal. Border Patrol says 21 migrants died in El Paso after entering the canals.  Border Patrol also states that smugglers often tell migrants to jump into the canals to avoid being caught by agents.
