National Weather Service El Paso hosts meeting on Monsoon Preparedness

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- On Wednesday, the National Weather Service El Paso Office will host an Integrated Warning Team (IWT) meeting at the Tech H2O Center in east El Paso.

At IWT meetings, members discuss high-impact weather events in the region to make sure everyone is prepared for extreme weather events. Essentially, they are meetings to get everyone on the same page.

The meeting on Wednesday is about monsoon preparedness as the monsoon season is quickly approaching. The official start of the monsoon is June 15th, and it lasts through September 30th. The monsoon is the rainy season in the desert southwest, where winds shift from the west, to out of the south, which helps bring up more moisture from the Gulf of California, the Pacific, and sometimes even the Gulf of Mexico.

Meteorologists from all of the local television stations were invited to the event. It runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
