ABC-7 Xtra: Surgeon General sounds the alarm on social media and our youth

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy is acknowledging our nation's youth is suffering a mental health crisis, and he's pointing to social media as one of the culprits. In fact, he issued a major advisory warning about the profound risk social media poses to children and teens.

The Surgeon General wrote in part, "Nearly every teenager in America uses social media, and yet, we do not have enough evidence to conclude that it is sufficiently safe for them. Our children have become unknowing participants in a decades-long experiment."

Sunday on ABC-7 Xtra, I asks a child psychiatrist and a youth behavioral expert just how pervasive the problem is in the Borderland.

Two senior high school students join me for the conversation reacting to points made by the experts.
