‘Casa del Migrante’ in Juarez has new director after 13 years

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- One of the best known migrant shelter along the border has a new director. The former leader, Father Javier Calvillo, served for over 13 years.

Father Francisco Javier Bueno Guillén will replace Calvillo as the head of the shelter. He has been serving there for two years.

Juarez's bishop Guadalupe Torres with the Juarez Diocese announced this change in May.

Director Bueno Guillén is set to bring new ideas and projects for the migrants' "house" to keep serving and helping migrants in need south of the border.

Currently, 'La Casa del Migrante' is at its 50% capacity weeks after Title 42 expired in May.

ABC-7 reached out to Father Calvillo to learn more about his 13 years leading this shelter. He's resting before returning to serve in different areas in Juarez in mid-June.
