Migrants in Juarez now camping at El Chamizal, waiting to cross into U.S.

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- Migrants in Juarez who recently arrived at the border and who do not want to stay at local shelters have started to camp at El Chamizal, next to the Bridge of the Americas.

Other migrants have been seen at the Ysleta Port of Entry and at the Paso del Norte Bridge, too.

According to El Diario de Juarez, around 150 people are staying at El Chamizal, waiting for U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers to grant them access into the U.S.

Some migrants have been at the park for over a week, camping under the trees and without camping tents.

ABC-7 has been reporting that migrant shelters in Juarez are over 50% percent capacity, but still, some migrants prefer to be camping or staying on the streets and now at El Chamizal waiting for an opportunity to cross.
