10 people transported to the hospital after a multi-vehicle crash

Update: Texas DPS told ABC-7 that around 12:40 a.m. Thursday, a trooper saw a Kia passenger car driving on Paisano Drive, with multiple people hiding in the back of the vehicle, and requested assistance as the trooper suspected human smuggling. DPS said when the driver saw the trooper units approaching, they sideswiped a DPS unit and began to flee.

The driver sped over 100 miles per hours, according to DPS, eventually crashing into a Jeep at the intersection where the pile-up happened.

DPS said the driver of the Jeep was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Troopers found nine people trapped inside the Kia. All were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and all were identified as undocumented, non-U.S. citizens.
