Borderland economy impacted by holiday weekend sales and cross-border crossings

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- The Borderland's economy has a different impact this holiday season with sales and the change in currencies between the U.S. dollar and the Mexican peso.

After commercial crossings were stuck with the recent migrant surge, borderland businesses tried to recover with 'El Buen Fin' in Mexico and Black Friday in the U.S.

Residents who cross the border to El Paso or to Juarez are finding ways to take advantage of the sales this holiday season.

The U.S. dollar's value has increased lately, as currency exchange stores are now showing its value in almost 18 Mexican pesos. A couple of months ago was around 16.

This is helping residents coming from El Paso to Juarez to shop more and enjoy different ways of entertainment south of the border.
