Socorro Independent School District discusses superintendent search

Update: During the meeting those in attendance voiced their concern regarding the absence of superintendent Dr. Nate Carman.

This comes less than a week after Carman decided to leave for another superintendent position in Arizona. He is set to leave SISD at the end of the school year.

On Jan. 23, SISD held a board of trustees special board meeting where it was revealed that the district had a $33 million deficit in the 2023-2024 budget.

“We are bleeding money. We can’t allow somebody who has proven that they cannot manage a budget to continue to make decisions that we can’t make him accountable for. It’s not gonna affect him," said Sammy Carrejo, an SISD parent present at the meeting.

One of the trustees mentioned during discussion that the superintendent was not able to be present since he was in a different meeting at the time of Wednesday's meeting.
