Man arrested after Sheriff’s Office says he led deputies on a chase in Far East El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office says that on September 5, 2026, 25-year-old Christian Esparza was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle.

According to officials, around 2:59 a.m., an El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed a blue Audi Q7 traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed at the 14900 block of Montana Avenue.

Officials say the deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the driver continued heading eastbound. The driver later lost control of the vehicle and entered the desert, damaging the vehicle’s front bumper.

The driver, who was later identified as Esparza, was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported by officials.

Esparza was charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. His bond was set at $5,000.

“Evading law enforcement is dangerous and can quickly turn a traffic violation into a potentially deadly situation,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “If you see emergency lights behind you, slow down and safely pull over. Fleeing puts the driver, our personnel, and innocent members of the public at risk.”
