ABC-7 First Alert: Quiet Conditions Before Rain and Storms Return to the Borderland
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — The Borderland is enjoying a mostly dry stretch of weather, but changes are on the way. While temperatures remain seasonable through Wednesday, rain and thunderstorm chances will increase Thursday and Friday, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and isolated flash flooding. Conditions should improve just in time for Halloween before another system brings widespread rain chances Sunday into Monday.
Quiet Weather Through Wednesday
A weak weather system is moving away from the region, leaving behind generally dry conditions. Despite some moisture near the surface, dry air higher in the atmosphere and limited storm support should keep most of El Paso and Southern New Mexico rain-free this afternoon.
The main exception will be near the Hudspeth and Culberson County line, where an isolated thunderstorm could develop. A few spotty storms may also develop across Hudspeth County on Wednesday, but most communities will remain dry.
Temperatures will stay near seasonal averages today, with a slight warm-up expected Wednesday.
Rain and Thunderstorms Return Thursday and Friday
Our next weather system begins moving into the Borderland Thursday, bringing increasing moisture and support for showers and thunderstorms.
Rain chances will increase through Thursday afternoon and continue into the overnight hours. After a brief break, another disturbance will move through Friday afternoon into early Saturday, bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms.
The main concern with both rounds of storms will be heavy rainfall and isolated flash flooding, especially where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same areas.
Severe weather is not expected to be widespread, but a few stronger storms cannot be completely ruled out, particularly Thursday. Stay weather-aware and be prepared for changing conditions as these systems move through the region.
A Halloween Break in the Weather
The timing looks favorable for Halloween! Showers and storms should move out of the area by early Saturday morning, allowing skies to gradually clear throughout the day.
Temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages, making for generally pleasant conditions for Halloween festivities.
For those heading out for trick-or-treating or Fall Festivals, the forecast looks much quieter, with no significant weather concerns expected Saturday evening.
