The El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens the Chihuahuan Desert Fiesta

El Paso, TX (KVIA) -- Celebrations for the Chihuahuan Desert, known for its unique wildlife and extreme environment, took place at the El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens on Saturday Sept. 26 started at 10:30am at the 22nd Annual Chihuahuan Desert Fiesta.

The Fiesta kicked off Saturday in conjunction with the City of El Paso’s recognition of International Chihuahuan Desert Celebration Day on September 27, observed on the fourth Sunday of Septmber. Officials say the day recognizes the Chihuahuan Desert with it's natural beauty and it's significance in the ecology to the Borderland with portions of the desert stretching from Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico.

The family-friendly event gave visitors the chance to explore zoo exhibits as well as a number of other activities including events with conservation organizers and entertainment at the Wildlife Amphitheater. Informational displays throughout the zoo gave attendees the chance to to take a closer look at the Chihuahuan Desert and the conservation efforts in our area and in the region.

“The Chihuahuan Desert belongs to all of us,” said El Paso Zoo and Botanical Gardens Zoo Education Programs Manager Rick LoBello. “By bringing people together through education and shared experiences, we can build stronger communities that celebrate and appreciate their connection to the desert landscape and recognize its rich natural beauty and heritage.”
