Rio Grande Honor Flight celebrates local veterans at El Paso International Airport

El Paso, TX (KVIA) -- The City of El Paso and the community came together in the Main Lobby of the El Paso International Airport to greet Vietnam War Veterans and gave them a hero's welcome home after their Rio Grande Honor Flight.

The homecoming took place on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. and gave the community a chance to show gratitude to the veterans for their service and sacrifice. The event was free to the public and many in the community brought American Flags and welcome-home signs to show their appreciation for those veterans.

Taking off from El Paso International Airport, the flight took local veterans to Washington, D.C. and back home to El Paso. Organizers say The Rio Grande Honor Flights provide veterans with the opportunity to visit the national memorials built in their honor, and offer a meaningful experience of reflection, remembrance, and healing.
