Major Weekend Closures Ahead for I-10 Widening Project

El Paso TX (KVIA-TV)-Drivers traveling eastbound on the highway between Anthony and Transmountain are being urged to plan ahead due to upcoming full weekend closures. The closures are part of the ongoing I-10 Widening West project, which involves major bridge deck placements.

According to TxDOtT El Paso, construction crews, who have already been working on bridge deck placements for the past two weekends, will continue to close the highway overnight on Saturdays and reopen it Monday mornings. Each bridge requires a full weekend closure for deck placement, and with 14 bridges being reconstructed—seven in each direction—there are still five more eastbound closures scheduled.

Once the decks are poured, they take about ten days to cure. During this period, protective blankets and barrel rims are used to safeguard the new concrete. While some decks are curing, other teams prepare additional bridges by installing deck panels and rebar, ensuring equipment is ready for upcoming pours.

Meanwhile, progress is also being made on the westbound bridges. Crews are currently pouring columns in a highly coordinated effort, with workers elevated to the structure's height working alongside ground teams and machine operators.

Officials advise motorists to stay informed about closure schedules and seek alternate routes when possible.
