Socorro ISD Board Places Tax Election on November Ballot

El Paso, TX (KVIA-TV)-The Socorro Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees has unanimously approved putting a Voter-Approved Tax Ratification Election (VATRE) on the November 3, 2026 ballot.

According to the Super Intendent of Socorro ISD James Vasquez, the proposed tax increase aims to generate about $49 million annually to address rising costs and state funding gaps, supporting teacher pay, student programs, and school safety.

If approved, the average SISD homeowner would pay roughly $10 more per month in taxes, though seniors and disabled homeowners with exemptions would not see an increase. The district plans a voter education campaign to explain the measure, with early voting running October 19-30 and Election Day on November 3.
