Wife of El Paso city Rep. Sam Morgan asks DA’s office to drop domestic violence charges against him
EL PASO, Texas -- The El Paso County District Attorney's office confirmed to ABC-7 on Wednesday that the wife of El Paso city Rep. Sam Morgan is requesting to drop the domestic violence charges against him.
Back on Oct. 4, police were called out to Morgan's home on a family violence incident. Police said Morgan's wife had been hit across the face and officers found Morgan the bedroom of their home. According to court documents he racked a firearm before stepping outside to meet officers.
Morgan was arrested and charged for the incident and his wife later filed for divorce. As ABC-7 previously reported, Morgan pleaded not guilty to the charges in January.
Morgan appeared in court Wednesday for a procedural hearing on the charges he faces. Afterwards his attorney, Leonard Morales, said he had "no comment at this time."
The District Attorney's office also said it does not comment on pending cases. Below is a copy of the court affidavit filed by Janel Morgan requesting that her husband not be prosecuted.
