EL PASO, Texas -- Police announced the arrest Wednesday of an 18-year-old man in the case of another 18-year-old who was recently found shot and critically wounded in his car in a northeast El Paso neighborhood.

Jose Manuel Madrid is charged with deadly conduct for the shooting of Jose Martin Espinosa-Fortuna in the early morning hours of June 10 in the 4000 block of Moonlight Avenue near Mercury, which is a residential area.

Madrid is jailed on $10,000 bond for the shooting charge as well an outstanding theft charge.

Espinosa-Fortuna remained hospitalized in critical condition on Wednesday. Officers had found him two weeks ago "sitting in a vehicle in the middle of the (street), with a gunshot wound to his torso,"according to a police incident report.

Authorities on Wednesday didn't offer an alleged motive or explain the circumstances surrounding the shooting, but suggested it may have been accidental.
