El Paso police release pics of witnesses sought to stabbing death in convenience store parking lot

UPDATE #3, Dec. 17: Detectives on Friday released surveillance images of two men believed to have witnessed a deadly stabbing in the parking lot of a central El Paso convenience store earlier this week that they are looking to speak with.

Jonathon Michael Baclet, 23, is charged with murder in the death of Victor Iram Fernandez, 34, on Monday evening in Backer is charged with murder in the stabbing death of Victor Iram Fernandez, 34, of central El Paso, during a fight that took place in the Speedway store parking lot at 715 N. Police urged the pair shown in the surveillance photos, as well as any other witnesses that haven't talked to detectives, to contact the Crimes Against Persons Unit at 915-212-4040.

UPDATE #2, Dec. 14: A judge on Tuesday ordered a 23- year-old homeless man, Jonathon Michael Baclet, held in the downtown jail on $500,000 bond.

Backer is charged with murder in the stabbing death of Victor Iram Fernandez, 34, of central El Paso, during a fight that took place in the Speedway store parking lot at 715 N. Stanton.

Police declined to release the suspect’s mugshot saying there were still witnesses being sought by detectives and sharing the booking photo could compromise the case.

UPDATE, Dec. 13: Police said an argument resulting in a fight in the parking lot of the Speedway gas station and convenience store at E. Yandell Drive and N. Mesa Street on Monday evening led to the stabbing death of a 34-year-old man.

Authorities indicated the 23-year-old man suspected of stabbing the victim was taken into custody by officers.

The names of the victim and suspect weren't released; EPPD Crimes Against Persons detectives along with investigators from the Criminalistics Unit remained at the scene near downtown into night.

ORIGINAL REPORT, Dec. 13: EL PASO, Texas -- One person died Monday evening following a stabbing attack near downtown El Paso.

It happened about 5:45 p.m. at E. Yandell Drive and N. Mesa Street at the Speedway gas station and convenience store.

First-responders indicated the the victim was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition; police said the person later died.

Police didn’t indicate what led up to the stabbing - or whether any arrests had occurred.
