Ricardo Marquez sentencing begins, decision expected Monday
EL PASO, Texas -- Sentencing for the man found guilty of murdering an El Paso mother resumed at the El Paso County Courthouse Friday morning.
The decision of Ricardo Marquez's sentencing is expected from Judge Sam Medrano Monday.
The defense asked for the jury to sentence in the first trial, which ended in a mistrial. They are claiming they want Medrano to sentence Marquez instead of the jury.
Medrano decided to discharge the jury, and will be sentencing Marquez himself.
Marquez was found guilty Thursday of the murder of Erika Gaytan back in July 2019. Her body was never recovered.
