2 dead, 3 children injured after crash involving military bus in Northeast El Paso

Update: El Paso Police say that two people are dead. They identified the victims as 50-year-old Ana Sandoval and 78-year-old Maria Del Carmen Sandoval-Cuellar.

Special Traffic Investigators are still looking into the crash.

Officials say the military bus was traveling north on Gateway North near State Line Road. The van carrying the two victims and three children below the age of 13 was traveling east on State Line Road.

Police say Sandoval, who was driving the van, pulled out in front of the bus as it entered the intersection. The bus T-boned the van, according to El Paso Police.

The three children suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital, police say.

The driver of the bus, who is a Ft. Bliss resident, was not injured.

"Twenty-seven passengers from the bus were taken to a military hospital to be evaluated for superficial injuries," an El Paso Police Department spokesperson stated Monday. "However, one passenger on the bus received a non-life-threatening injury."
