El Paso Police identify person who died in fiery van crash on Loop 375

Update (July 2, 2024): El Paso Police just identified the driver, who died in the fiery crash, as 69-year-old Jesus Manuel Huerta.

Investigators say Huerta was driving east on the loop when, for an unknown reason, he drove onto the median between the Midway off-ramp and the highway. He slowed down but still crashed into a light pole, police say. The van then caught fire.

"Huerta had a BAC of .188, therefore alcohol was a contributing factor in this collision," a police spokesperson stated Tuesday.

This is the 33rd traffic fatality of the year, compared to 37 this time last year.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - El Paso Fire confirms one person is dead after a fiery crash along the eastbound lanes of Loop 375 near Midway in the Lower Valley.

TxDOT posted an alert about a vehicle on fire about 3:26 p.m. Sunday.

El Paso Police posted the Midway Exit was closed and all lanes were also shut down at Fonseca.

Police added to expect traffic to be back up until crews can clear the wreckage.
