Death of woman who ran onto I-10 ruled a suicide: police
Update (December 5, 2024): Villalobos' death was ruled a suicide. El Paso Police officials say the "fatality was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner's office."
Update (November 14, 2024): El Paso Police identify the dead pedestrian as 45-year-old Rachel Kelly Villalobos.
Special Traffic Investigators say Villalobos was lying on the freeway entrance ramp near mile marker 21. She got up and ran onto I-10 when a TxDOT vehicle arrived at the ramp.
A Jeep traveling west "could not avoid" hitting Villalobos, police say. After the Jeep hit her, two other cars also hit Villalobos. She died from her injuries. Special Traffic Investigators notified her next of kin two days later.
Police say that the presence of a pedestrian in the roadway was a main contributing factor to the crash.
EPPD officials say this is the 57th traffic fatality of the year, compared with 65 this time last year.
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- A pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning following a crash in Central El Paso, according to El Paso Police.
Investigators say the crash happened on I-10 West at Piedras just before 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Special Traffic Investigators were called out to the area to investigate.
No other information was made available.
