Pakistan swears in newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s 19-member Cabinet

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The 19-member Cabinet of Pakistan’s newly elected Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has been sworn into office. Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath of office to the ministers on Monday at the presidential office, with Sharif in attendance. Later in the day, Sharif held the first meeting of his new Cabinet and named several important posts. Sharif was elected as prime minister by the parliament after his Pakistan Muslim League-N party formed a coalition with several allies. Pakistan is battling an unrelenting economic crisis, regular power cuts, a surge in militant attacks and a challenging relationship with neighboring Taliban-run Afghanistan.
