Accused human smuggler David Meza leaves court accompanied back to jail by a federal agent.

EL PASO, Texas -- An El Paso man accused of smuggling undocumented immigrants into the U.S. will remain behind bars as the case against him proceeds.

A federal judge has ordered David Meza held without bond on charges of conspiracy to harbor, shield or conceal "unauthorized aliens" -- essentially smuggling people illegally into the country.

As Meza was escorted back to jail following Thursday's court hearing, ABC-7's Saul Saenz asked him if he smuggled people into the country. Meza’s only response was a smirk.

Meza was arrested earlier this week after authorities raided a home on Royal Woods Drive in east El Paso, where it's alleged that Meza would keep undocumented immigrants.
