17 new Juarez virus deaths brings total near 100 as some old deaths are reclassified

CIUDAD JURAEZ, Mexico -- The Chihuahua Health Secretariat on Tuesday reported 17 new coronavirus deaths in Juarez, bringing the city's total fatality count to nearly a hundred.

Of those 17 latest fatalities contributing to a tally of 97 in Juarez, health officials said some of those deaths were old but had been reclassified from pneumonia deaths to Covid-19 deaths as a result of delayed testing data.

Juarez is responsible for the bulk of the 118 deaths in Chihuahua state.

Confirmed virus cases in Juarez stood at 418 on Tuesday, which also accounted for the majority of the state's 653 infections to date.
