Video said to show 5-year-old abandoned at Juarez-El Paso border

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico -- A French news agency reported Thursday that it had obtained cellphone video of a 5-year-old boy being abandoned along the U.S.-Mexico border in Juarez as the child screams and begs "don’t leave.”

According to Agence France-Presse, the video - which was aired on Fox News Channel - showed a couple helping the boy across the Rio Grande before leaving him at barbed-wire wall at an underpass separating Juarez from El Paso.

AFP said the young child clutched a teddy bear as he cried before blurting out: “Where are you going? … No, no, no. Don’t leave.”

The wire service indicated that U.S. Border Patrol agents spotted the 5-year-old a short time later and picked him up, however a Border Patrol spokesperson told ABC-7 that the agency couldn't verify either the video or the details contained in the news report.

The Border Patrol said an initial check of its files didn't find any information about an abandoned 5-year-old being found by El Paso sector agents last Thursday night, which is when AFP said the incident happened. Officials did say they apprehended other unaccompanied minors that evening.
