2,500 migrants at Sacred Heart Church as Title 42 is lifted in two days

KVIA

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The growing number of migrants arriving daily in El Paso has overwhelmed our federal workforce and shelter system. The situation will become even more overwhelming as the federal government ends its use of Title 42 on Thursday, May 11th.

The city revealed today there are 2,500 migrants outside Sacred Heart Church and about at the opportunity center for the homeless.

City leaders state that NGOs are expanding their capacity and that some migrants will be sheltered in schools in the coming days.

Beginning today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents, officers, and law enforcement partners from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will conduct a targeted enforcement operation in El Paso, Texas. Noncitizens who pose a threat to national security or public safety will be transferred to ICE for detention.
