Large groups of migrants waiting in Juarez for chance to enter U.S.

JUAREZ, Chihuahua (KVIA) -- Hundreds of migrants are lining up next to Gate 28 on the Mexican side of the border barrier.

According to reports in Juarez, more migrants arrive every day via train. Many of those migrants have gathered next to Juarez's red "X". They are waiting to turn themselves over to U.S. authorities. As ABC-7 reported last week, the migrants started gathering in large numbers on Friday.

Some migrants have even started a makeshift camp in that area of the river waiting to be processed by U.S. authorities.

The last time the Borderland saw large groups of migrants on this level was in May of 2023, just before Title 42 expired. Title 42 was a pandemic-era rule that allowed U.S. officials to remove migrants from the country without processing.

Juarez authorities clarify that many of the migrants gathering in the city will not stay long, with many making their way directly to the border and into the U.S.
