Raiz Federal Credit Union celebrates 90 years

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Raiz Federal Credit Union celebrated its 90th anniversary Friday.

"Being local for over 90 years and impacting so many families throughout those years has been something that for us is a legacy that we continue to build on every day," Alejandro Yu said.

Yu said Raiz has grown to become a $1 billion financial institution. As a non-profit, its money goes back to the El Paso community, he said.

As Raiz shoots for the 100-year mark, Yu said its goal is to keep growing.

While the credit union commemorated its 90th anniversary, Texas Senator Cesar Blanco presented a special resolution.

"If you look at the history of Raiz, it started with seven teachers," Sen. Blanco said. "Fast forward 90 years: 76,000 members."

Raiz said its membership expanded to 19 states.
