EL PASO, Texas -- A gas odor on Wednesday morning prompted the brief evacuation of students from Western Hills Elementary School.

Originally feared to be a possible gas leak, Texas Gas officials told ABC-7 the odor was caused by boiler maintenance work being performed to get ready for cold weather.

Students could be seen standing outside the school at 530 Thunderbird Drive in El Paso as police and fire vehicles surrounded the area initially while waiting for gas company crews.

There were no injuries and students returned to classes.
