(KVIA) -- Free College Application Week kicks off Thursday. Texas residents can apply to public colleges for free from Oct. 12-18, according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Here's the catch -- applicants have to submit through ApplyTexas, which is limited to public schools in the state. The waiver only applies to undergraduate programs. Transfer students can use the waiver.

The board also said the waiver applies to community college application fees.

Free College Application Week started with Senate Bill 2231, the board said.
