EL PASO, Texas -- A late model Volkswagon Beetle, also known as a VW Bug, went up in flames Thursday night outside a Whataburger restaurant in east El Paso.

Viewer video provided to ABC-7 showed the burning bug just after 7 p.m. near the Whataburger on Yarbrough and Vista Del Sol.

Firefighters said it took them about the 12 minutes to knock down that car fire, but not before the classic vehicle suffered substantial damage.

Authorities said no injuries occurred and what sparked the bug blaze wasn't immediately known.

  1. Late model is a newer car, an early model is an older car.

So, a classic VW would be a early model, but a newer car, like a “new Bug,” now discontinued, would be a late model.
