Large fire contained at Lower Valley recycling plant

EL PASO, Texas -- Firefighters battled a large blaze at a Lower Valley recycling facility that produced heavy smoke that could be seen for miles.

The fire Thursday evening took place at SA Recycling, located at 6800 Market Avenue in El Paso.

Authorities called it a "condition 4" fire, which ranks as one of the top resource deployments for the fire department.

Hazmat crews responded along with firefighters because of some of the materials stored at the plant, which has been the scene of blazes on a number of past occasions in recent years.

The fire was reported around 6:50 p.m. and was contained about an hour later, officials said, adding that here was no injuries.

Crews examined the fire scene looking for hot spots well into the night.
