El Paso families plan for Thanksgiving gatherings after last year’s pandemic limits

EL PASO, Texas -- With Thanksgiving Day only two weeks away, many El Pasoans are now deciding how they will be celebrating the big holiday.

Last year, families were forced to celebrate the holiday alone or with just close household members.

As a result, many holiday activities were halted and the regular traditions were interrupted.

But this year, with a vaccine against Covid-19 now available, many El Pasoans are planning to celebrate with family.

When ABC-7 asked El Pasoans how they were planning on spending the holiday, many said that they would once again reunite with their extended family members.

Nancy Meredith said that she is expectant for the big day: “We are looking forward to it and spending time with family and getting to talk and tell stories and do the things we usually do.”

But Meredith said that she would still be limiting the Thanksgiving celebration to a half-dozen people.

Heriberto Escorza said that last year he only spent the holiday with his immediate family, but that’ll change this year.

“Well this year, we are trying to get the family together because we have family from Mexico, so we are trying to get all together and have a pretty nice dinner,” he said.

Escorza added that he is ready to have all of his family together again: “I mean we all missed each other and it’s nice that we are all together to be in the same place again.”
