CBP, Border Patrol agents rescue injured hiker from Franklin Mountains

UPDATE (Aug. 19, 2026): U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the El Paso Sector said the hiker fell and injured himself during a hiking trip Saturday.

A CBP Air and Marine Operations helicopter crew and U.S. Border Patrol Special Operations Detachment agents rescued the hiker.

CBP AMO received a call to help El Paso Fire at 9:30 p.m. El Paso Fire's search and rescue team couldn't reach the hiker due to steep terrain.

An off-duty Black Hawk crew then helped with the rescue, which was in a remote, high-altitude area, CBP said.

CBP said crews used night vision goggles and hoist iterations from more than 90 feet.

The hiker had multiple injuries and transported to a hospital.

“Our collaboration with COMSAR resulted in a successful rescue,” said Director Efren Gonzalez of AMO El Paso Air Branch. “I am proud of our aircrew and agents.”

(UPDATE) -- The El Paso Fire Department (EPFD) says a hiker was airlifted to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after hiking on the Roundhouse Trailhead in Northeast El Paso.

EPFD said 20 members from the El Paso's Combined Search And Rescue (ComSAR) team were at the scene and reached the hiker sometime late Saturday night.

Officials with EPFD says that a helicopter from Fort Bliss assisted in airlifting the hiker to the hospital.

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- El Paso Fire's Combined Search and Rescue team are rescuing an injured hiker in Northeast El Paso.

El Paso Fire says they have not yet found the hiker.
