El Pasoan, Silva Magnet graduate shares experiences at U.S. Naval Academy

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Midshipman Adam Esqueda is a 2016 graduate of Maxine L. Silva Health Magnet High School and is a currently a senior at the United States Naval Academy. Adam will join the U.S. Navy submarine force after graduating and commissioning as an Ensign.

Academically, he majors in Chemistry with a concentration in Biochemistry and is the Midshipman Group Study Program staff leader, a role that involves the coordination of tutoring for first year students taking general chemistry. Outside of school, he serves as the vice president of the USNA
Chemistry Club and is a member of the Latin American Studies Club and the Midshipman Action Group.

He also has held many leadership billets during his time at USNA. Currently, he serves as the 21st Company Commander, a leadership role in which he is responsible for over 140 other Midshipmen. Previously, he served as a squad leader, operations officer, and training sergeant for his company.

Midshipman Esqueda has enjoyed many wonderful opportunities while at USNA. These experiences are highlighted by the completion of internships at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the Naval Research Lab. In addition, he has served as an instructor for the USNA Summer STEM outreach camp and has
gone on fleet cruises with operation units in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Norfolk, Virginia.
